It was obvious that he was glitched, but I didn't expect the fix to his text to also mean moving him and changing what he was collecting.

I didn't farm any krait skins, but if I had I could see being a bit annoyed at the fix.

I've got screenshots of meeting him everyweek, however making a video would have been more funny
I always immagined him theoretically taking a week to get to places without map travelling and throughout the week he would technically be moving however 1 day was pretty good running.

Adding to the fact that those that did might be screwed next round. how do we know that if/when he really asks for krait skins that we(those that turns them in for gifts) will be able to turn then in again?

I almost feel sorry for the people paying 1k a skin to find out they where scammed on the travelor. I feel bad enough on the wasted time spent farming them myself. Rant over I guess hides next on the menu

Hey might even be a cool feature to just have him randomly move 3-4 times a week.

Knew he was bugged? I certainly didn't know that. Not until I went to find him and he was gone. The sole thing I did before starting to farm was check on what he was collecting. Period. I'm sure there are a lot of others who do something similar, since we don't really have a lot of time. I have one day each week that I can actually spend farming in an organized fashion (in other words, keep doing the same thing till I have everything I need.) I spent that time farming for the items I thought would be used to get his gifts for this week. Now, I am not sure I will be able to do enough farming to get the gifts for one account, let alone the 5 I normally farm for. My guild is made up mostly of people who play less than 10 hours per week. Usually less than 5 hours, though sometimes we luck out on schedules and can get together a little more. Unless we want to waste that precious game time together farming, we cannot get the gifts this week. Something none of us will be happy about.

Here's the thing... Nicholas (A-Net) didn't ask you to farm Krait Skins. You didn't talk to Nicholas at all, or you would have known that he was bugged since there was no dialog text to tell the player what to farm for. Instead, some players experimented until Nick responded and then posted that information to the Wiki and the Guru thread.

Wiki and Guru are invaluable sources of information; unfortunately, they aren't always right. Had you been willing to go and speak to Nick yourself, instead of relying on the kindness of others and their shared and, in this instance at least, incorrect, information then you would have known that he was bugged.

By the way, I did the exact same thing that you did. I checked Wiki, farmed the skins, and went to the spot that I believed Nick to be. He wasn't there. I did some checking, found that he was removed and reset and felt some frustration over having already spent the time and effort to get the skins.

But, that's where our similarities end. Bitching at the not-perfect employees of a not-perfect company is both futile and in poor taste. I believe those employees do their best to do a good job, earn their money, and produce a quality game. Chances are good that they do it mostly for the sake of their pocketbooks, but also for the sake of satisfaction in a job well done. I say that because I believe it's true of most people who hold down a job. If I'm correct then they already feel badly about it. Browbeating them over a mistake is ridiculous.

When was the last time you screwed up at work? How many people did you have to tell about it? How many people raised hell with you about it, or called you worthless, or said you are full of fail? A little bit of empathy goes a long way.

Screw ups happen. Suck it up.

Excuse me, where do you see that I said anything other than I felt this was poor customer service and was not happy? Yes, I am bitching because I feel this was a screw-up. I am hoping that hearing the feedback that this was a screwup will make them try harder not to repeat such a thing. This bug was not fixed in a manner that would keep the players, i.e. their customers, happy. Not a good thing when you are dependent on their money to keep you going. If you are never let to know that something doesn't work/annoys people/causes problems, how in the H--- can you know enough not to do it again or to make changes?

When I screw up at work, I am let know that I screwed up. I expect that. I also expect people to let me know what is was that made it a screw up so I can make sure it isn't repeated.

In my opinion, the best way to have handled the problem with Nicholas would have been to leave him in place with a repaired text. That would have been the best thing for the players. It would have helped prevent people from having lost time, it would have kept people who didn't know about the change from losing money by buying items they thought he was collecting but no longer was.

I am sincerely hoping that if enough people let NCSoft and Arena.net know that solutions such as this are not the right way to fix this kind of a problem, they will find a different solution if such a thing should re-occur.

Well moving him wasn't very nice. I only got 2 gifts from him when he wanted Krait skins because I had to be quick, but I had hoped to get the rest sometime this week. Now he's moved to a location I can't get to!

After a certain point it's wasted time to even be logged into the game, y'know.
I'll agree that it wasn't the best way to handle it, but who's to say that they're not working on it and going to put him back in Arbor on Monday?
Yeah, it's an inconvienience, but you can manage to deal with it, right?
Complaining isn't going to help either side of this. ;D

I think ANet knew that, and it is unfair to assume they wouldn't see something so obvious. I also think it may not have been possible for them to do.

The update note says that Nick was moved to the "correct" location. This implies that his Arbor Bay location was not where he should have been in the first place. My guess is that he was not supposed to be in Arbor Bay at this time because the dialog for that spawn is not yet finished. That would explain why his dialog box was empty.

If the dialog is not available for the Arbor Bay spawn, it probably isn't a five minute job to fix it. The dialog may not yet be written. The dialog may be written, but not yet approved by everyone at ANet who must approve it (probably including the lawyers), and any bureaucratic process takes time. The dialog may be written and approved, but not yet localized, and it would be impractical to get a bunch of translators together on a minute's notice to do a rush job.

Thus, there are a number of possible reasons why ANet couldn't solve the problem "the best way" and had to settle for putting Nick where he should have spawned this week to begin with. Can you think of any other thing they could have done, assuming that the best fix was simply impossible to accomplish?

As it was, quite a bit of time passed between Linsey's post saying they were aware of the problem and the appearance of a new build. So even simply moving Nick was not as simple as one might think. First they probably had to have a hasty meeting to discuss what solutions might be implimented. When they chose the solution of moving Nick, they probably had to get it approved by somebody. After flipping the variable or whatever controls his spawn point, they probably had to do some QA before they could take the build live.

Things are never as simple as we would like them to be.
